Flaky Cranberry Chocolate Pockets

These Flaky Cranberry Chocolate Pockets are a little bit of magic wrapped in golden puff pastry. The combination of rich chocolate and tangy cranberry sauce creates a beautiful balance — sweet, tart, and buttery all at once. Each bite melts together in a swirl of flavor and texture: crisp pastry, creamy chocolate, and a burst of bright cranberry.
This recipe is also a wonderful way to use leftover cranberry sauce, transforming it into an elegant treat that looks as though it came from a bakery. Perfect for the holidays, brunch, or a cozy afternoon with coffee or tea, these turnovers are as easy to make as they are impressive to serve.
Ingredients (makes 8 pockets)
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- ½ cup cranberry sauce (homemade or leftover)
- ½ cup Nutella or chocolate hazelnut spread
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon water
- Chocolate and Powdered sugar (for drizzle and dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 8 equal squares.
- On each square, place about 1 teaspoon of Nutella and 1 teaspoon of cranberry sauce in the center.

- Fold the pastry and gently press the edges with a fork to seal (Tip: I like to “wet the dough edges” with little bit of water to seal them – to prevent filling oozing out).
- Whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash, then brush it lightly over the tops of the pockets.

- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Allow to cool slightly on wire rack, then drizzle with melted chocolate and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

- Serve warm.

Why You’ll Love Them
These pockets take just minutes to prepare but taste like something special. The tartness of the cranberry sauce cuts through the sweetness of the chocolate, while the puff pastry adds a delicate crunch. They’re festive, comforting, and a lovely reminder that leftovers can turn into something truly delightful.
